Cleaning and Sterilization of Dental Instruments
Before sterilization, all dental instruments must be
thoroughly disinfected and cleaned. You may choose one of the following
approved cleaning methods:
1. Manual Cleaning (By Hand)
Manual cleaning is effective when done correctly. To prevent
corrosion or instrument damage, please follow these guidelines:
- Use
a soft brush and neutral or non-aggressive detergent.
- Gently
scrub all surfaces to remove debris and contaminants.
- Immediately
dry the instruments using a soft, dry cotton cloth to avoid
water stains or rust.
2. Ultrasonic Cleaning
Ultrasonic cleaning is a time-saving and highly
efficient method.
- It
is more effective than manual cleaning.
- Significantly
reduces the risk of contamination.
- Ideal
for cleaning complex and hard-to-reach areas of instruments.
3. Thermo Disinfection
Thermo disinfection is also highly effective and reduces
contamination risks.
- It
is usually carried out using large machines.
- Not
suitable for small batches due to size and energy efficiency.
- Ensure
all instruments are completely dry before sterilization to prevent
staining.
Important Notes:
- Instruments
with joints or ratchets must be cleaned and sterilized in the open
position to ensure proper penetration of disinfectants and steam.
- Drying
is essential before sterilization to prevent stains and preserve
instrument quality.
